NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS PARTNERSHIP

The Urban Housing Lab has been selected as official partner of the New European Bauhaus (NEB), an initiative of the EU European Green Deal that caters to the transformation towards sustainable futures.

Being inspired by the Bauhaus of the 1920s that synthesized scientific, technological and artistic innovation and transformation, the NEB pushes for cross-disciplinary debates and ideas for aesthetic, inclusive and sustainable urban communities and habitats. Pressing environmental and societal challenges necessitate to again radically rethink and remodel current practices. The New European Bauhaus thus seeks inspiring strategies that reduce the carbon footprint of built environments, and imagine liveable, inclusive and affordable habitats that empower participation and engagement.

The Urban Housing Lab participates in the cross-disciplinary co-design phase to jointly discuss and define the agenda NEB should encompass. As such, the lab collaborates with the Barcelona based social design studio The Care Lab, to jointly curate discussions on a Relational Typology with the multiple expertise within our networks. Redefining paradigms of typology, we debate new design strategies for building types with responsive hard-, org- and software and reveal new models of care that nurture and empower caring communities to co-shape relational practices.

Together with multiple inputs of all other NEB partners the co-design phase will lead to  the launch of at least five concrete pilot projects in different EU Member states, as  visionary projects bringing concrete and tangible changes, whether in the countryside or in the city.
